I’ve never been to the Pacific Northwest and I certainly didn’t climb the really complicated trails but I’ve been known to take some unnecessary risks just because the road seemed simple enough to do some shortcuts and climb through harder trails for a while.
Po shared a really good story about climbing the Cascades - South Early Winter Spire including coping with unexpected changes, hardships and problem solving.
I guess each climber knows what it is like to have to do some problem solving in field conditions and to change plans not just mentally but actually adjusting to a different way of climbing and just having to go with it.
I don’t know if it is a personality trait of climbers or it is just the demands of the situation but you can’t conquer a mountain unless you are totally in the moment, focusing on what to do next second.
Maybe people that are stuck with their lives should be taken for a climbing experience I can bet they’ll leave behind many of the things they attach too when they return home, kind of living in the moment and seeing what’s around you therapy.
