Hey all

I may have missed some discussion on this, since can't always pickup r.c group (life interferring with fun etc). I would like to do some rope soloing, and these are the techniques I have thought of:

If toprope, anchor rope at top, and tie fig-8's at (say) 2 meter intervals, climb and clip loops with 2 slings tied to my harness. If leading, anchor rope at bottom, every couple meters of rope clip in to my harness, then lead normally but unclip a loop of rope from my harness when I have reached the limit. or try a self belay device...

Anything wrong with my way of thinking? Any other ways of doing this that I haven't thought of?

Thanks for the interesting conversations (and bun-fights) that I have been trying to follow for a while.

Later

Adrian

Sounds a lot like the Yosemite Rope Solo Method....here is a long description of it: (be sure to copy the whole link and paste it into your browser window if it is not highlighted)

Probably dozens. Here are some that Dawn has collected:

And of course soloing is deadly, foolish, imposible to safely learn over the internet....blah blah blah (insert standard disclaimer here)

One other word of caution, don't fall too deeply in love with the Silent Partner untill you have checked out it's limitations.......(deja search)

Hello Adriane,

<< If toprope, anchor rope at top, and tie fig-8's at (say) 2 meter intervals, climb and clip loops with 2 slings tied to my harness. >>

That's what i've been doing, except i'm using a fig 8 loop at about 1 meter intervals. I don't try to grab every one but there is allways one nearby. Have taken a few soft falls on it and it seems to work.

Regards,

Hi Carmine - ya, I tried the 2 meter solo the other day, and although it worked ok, there were sections where the loops were just in the wrong sections. Will try 1m this weekend...
