Quokka Trashes Mymountainzone.com

What a pity. One of the Web's best and most popular adventure, climbing and mountaineering forums is being cast into extinction by Quokka following their acquisition of Mountainzone.com. Why? Possibly with the thought that the MYMZ community will naturally migrate over to their own forum venues. Well, it hasn't happened and Quokka refuses to so much as even comment or reply to repeated queries on the matter. A true demonstration of how professionalism is often tossed out the window in large faceless enterprises.

I've been to those new 'forums' Quokka has over there..as lame as it gets. Most of the posting is done by two guys with '-host' after their names, or as they say in Vegas, paid shills. The posts end with 'god bless' and if you bring up any issue the slightest bit controversial, Quokka clips it right out. I have a hard time believing any self respecting climber would have anything to do with that crap, or with what is left of MZ. Potterfield had a great idea with the 'Zone' it certainly showed in the articles and the forums, and that is where it all started for me, but all Quokka has done is leave a rancid taste in my mouth since the acquisition.

What sort of information would you need? Do you currently have forums running so we could take a look and get a feel for what will fit in with what you currently have? Quite a few climbers are looking for a new home.

What's wrong with USENET?

Nothing *wrong* with usenet per se, but what we had was smaller, a bit more personable, and some things like group e-mail, chat, and direct links to what used to be the best source of expedition info in one location I have found....ah well...things change I guess...
