We've just added a climbing areas database to our site. It allows a climber to perform a search through 20+ years of both Climbing and Rock and Ice magazine issues for information on climbing areas worldwide. The back issues of these magazines are a tremendous source of information for climbers with questions about areas or who are planning climbing trips. The problem up to now has always been trying to find the issue that had the information on the area you were interested in. The database is at www.chauvinguides.com/climbdata.cfm. Do a search and then get the magazines displayed in the results.

I agree that tools for finding articles in back issues are helpful. Paul Friberg and I constructed such a database, and it has been available for a few years at:
http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/~paulf/paulf.climb.html

and
http://www.stanford.edu/~clint/magindex/magidb.htm

I'd be interested to see how your index compares with ours.

I believe Climbing magazine has a back-issue search on its web page www.climbing.com . There is also a printed index to back issues of Climbing (I'm not sure how often it is updated).
