Matterhorn - high, hard, but during a couple of weeks each year quite OK. I was not there during these weeks, but still…it is a beautiful mountain.
The perfect time for Matterhorn, and Monte Cervino, is normally in the end of August, beginning of September. However, with the strange clima we have you can’t say anymore. I was there to be able to publish a good climbing guide line, one in the line of others, and was quite lucky with the weather but the mountain was covered in snow and it was a hard wind.
Anyone that is heading for the summit should contact the guide office in Cervinia or Zermatt before depart, the mountain is quickly falling down and the Hut on the Italian side was closed for a couple of years after a big rock-fall just under the Hut.
Take care - but go there before the mountain is only a couple of word’s in a history book.
