hi,

has anybody read the book 'advanced rock climbing' by john long? could you provide a rough table of contents? what does it actually focus on? pure climbing technique or things like rope management, building anchors and so on? can you recommend it? and what about the 'clip and go' book from the same series?

i would be interested in a book that deals specifically with improving sports climbing technique.

thanks in advance,

Longs book covers the things beyond the basic. I would buy it for no other reason the the antidotes. Craig Leubian's storys are great. The clip n go is bood also and for 5 or 6 buck is worth the money, the pictures are great.

Yes. I thought it was a decent book. It is entertaining and informative. It covers a diverse range of topics (self-rescue, anchors, technique, rope handling, etc).

I think that Performance Rock Climbing by Dale Goddard and Udo Neumann is more along the lines of what you are looking for. Check it out at:

John Long and Craig Luebben's Advance Rock Climbing is one of the best technical rock climbing books you will ever read. Seriously, it is full of sage advice and frankness from two guys who have been there and done that time and time again. Study the skills, practice the techniques, and head the warnings. Advance rock climbing might be the closest thing to a bible that many of us climbers will study.
