The least expensive tool that I know of is the Omega Pacific Bulldog. It is a straight shafted tool that costs around $75.00 each. They can be found at your local outfitter or online at a site like gearexpress.com.
I looked at a pair in the store the other day, and they seemed to be well balanced, though the center of gravity was about 3/4 inch closer to the end (the one with the pick) than the carbon fiber BD black prophet.
People are also always selling tools on eBay. There is a used gear store in N. Conway, NH that I've heard good things about. It is just across the street from the original EMS. The time I went there, it seemed like all their stuff was over-priced though.
Good climbing, Kyle
