A dog was spotted at the North Col of Everest during the spring climbing season. No one knew how the dog got there. People believed it was from the Ronbuk Monastery (at about 5200m) and had climbed up by itself. It rested and played around at C1, climbed quite a bit higher above the North Col, but was turned back 'because of lack of proper equipment' according to this website: http://www.chinaclimbing.com/news/highestdog.htm The pictures were taken by Nima Tsering of TMA.

'Sometimes people didn't climb as well as the dog.' the website commented.

Makes you wonder what those died on Everest have become after reincarnation.

I once helped rescue a dog off the summit of Orizaba. It had followed a group up by switchbacking, but had been to scared too descend. It spent the night up there and we carried it down the next day when we summited. It suffered some frozen feet during the night. There as a small bald spot near the top where it was able to lay down and not be on the glacier.

: So is the dog a CLIMBER? :

I guess some would say no if there the style of the ascent wasn't up to their standard. e.g. if the dog had hangdogged it.

When I was at Everest basecamp in mid-May, there was a scroungy-looking mutt that had followed someone into camp and was hanging around. He looked like he was suffering from AMS, among other things, he was so scroungy looking. Always had his head tilted over to one side in kind of a quizzical stare... Wonder if it's the same dog???
