Is it silly to have more than one pair of skis? More than one pack? More than one pair of boots? More than one tent? More than one set of clothes?

Why is it silly to have more than one pair of crampons?

I have two pairs of crampons because I have two pairs of boots that I use crampons with. My strap-on crampons doesn't fit my plastic boots, and my step-in crampons don't work well with my leather boots.

I don't demand that all my other climbing gear is universal, why should crampons be any different?

Sometimes on longer routes which have conditions varying a lot the type of boots one might wear varys ( in other words I will not carry plastics on long distance routes). I am not going to carry a extra pair of crampons to fit my leathers and another pair for the plastics because I will only be wearing my leathers. I may also be wearing a light weight hiker which I will force fit to the crampons (user beware!).
