Ask any veteran mountaineer and you'll learn that the most expensive component of every major expedition is not the travel, food and gear, the hiring of porters, or even the steep peak permit fees. It's the explosives. Be sure to budget for these.

Don't listen to these guys. If you really want to climb K2, and you were willing to cut a few corners (none for safety of course), you should be able to do the whole thing round trip from the US for around $2500.

Good Luck,

Brad

There are permit fees, and they are expensive. You would have to sneak by the authorities. The Burgess brothers have done this on some 7000 meter peaks, as is mentioned in 'The Book of Lies'. I would imagine it is a little harder to sneak up K2 though.

Good point; last I heard K2 was over 6,000 meters. Also, the Baltoro is a restricted area and you need an LA just to head up the glacier. I guess if you rowed a boat over to Karachi and then biked to Skardu (stopping in Islamabad to get your permit, LA, and Guide), you might be able to do the thing for $2500. :- k

The above is a joke...the point being that if you have to ask about the 'price' of a K2 trip then you clearly are not prepared yet to even start thinking about it.

My comment is now a joke (in terms of value as a post) since if you have to explain a joke to people...
