hey all
The title begs the question why even aid outside Yosemite but that another thread. So how do you rate aid routes on Canadian rockies limestone?(or sandstone, shale, grit for that matter) the cracks are wierd and discontinous, the rock loose and seams are rare and the falls are always bad. So does new wave A3+ apply to a short (20m) route with deck potential at the start but easier above? Since most gear placements in limestone are shaky to start the only *bomber* peices are bolts and only bolts. Just curious as to rating comparisons on diffferent rock types for aid as the techniques needed are different. Does anyone use R and X ratings for aid routes or just + or - ? thanks
